Wohpea - White Buffalo Calf Woman brought the Sacred Pipe to the People and expounded on the 7 Ceremonies. The key here is that the Sacred Pipe was brought to the people Not the Medicine Folks, nor the leaders but the People.
The stone used by the Lakota and many other Peoples of The Plains is Pipe Stone, found only in one place for all the world it is the blood of all the ancestors that perished in the great flood. Yes there was only 1 great flood.
Many folks when first exposed to this way of life get impatient to have a pipe of their own but caution would be best here.
